Muddy Boots Foundation

Mission Statement

All kids should have chances to leave their classrooms. To see the world, and to learn from it. The Muddy Boots Foundation supports real-world, hands-on learning by funding field trips for students in underserved Virginia communities.

A single bus rental can cost more than $800 a day, putting field trips out of reach for the schools that need them most.
Virginia is home to over half a million economically disadvantaged K-12 students — more than 4 in 10 public school students.
Field trips produce measurable gains in critical thinking, test scores, attendance, school pride, and good behavior. Effects are 2–3× larger for students in high-poverty and rural schools.

Expedition Grants

Our flagship program provides direct funding to Virginia schools and teachers to cover the two biggest barriers to field trip access: transportation and admission. We work with educators serving students who would otherwise never get to step outside the classroom.
